Assistant Director of Communications – University of Oregon – 2022-2024

Communications work for the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, a billion-dollar initiative to fast-track scientific research and innovation. Duties included writing (journalistic stories, social media, and web copy), social media management and content creation, and webpage development and design using Drupal and WordPress. Social media work including launching an Instagram account (March 2023) and Threads (Fall 2023). Projects included creating and implementing comprehensive communications plans for marquee events, such as the Science Knight Out community science talk and the roll-out of Building 2 construction communications.

Editor – The Sin City Siren – 2007-2019

The Sin City Siren was a nationally syndicated news blog based in Las Vegas, which covered national, state, and local news stories, particularly about women’s issues, LGBTQ issues, and legislative news. Duties included daily news posts, editing guest writers, photography, scripting, editing, and shooting videos, and more. This work included a successful summer internship program. The site was syndicated on the New York Times wire service and LexisNexis. The Siren was featured in Sports Illustrated, CNN, Daily Kos, Politico, New York Daily News, and more. Digital Content Specialist – Clark County (Las Vegas) – 2016-2017

The first ever Digital Content Specialist for Clark County, which has jurisdiction over the Las Vegas Strip, 2.25 million residents, and 46 million visitors a year. As the dedicated social media manager work included creating content for social channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and Tumblr. Additionally, this position required leadership in drafting and implementing a unified brand message and training stakeholders to maintain that message, including managment and elected officials. The job included promoting Clark County and its social channels to the media, with appearances on live television. This position is a leader in creating overall social media strategies and building specific campaign plans, as well as crisis management and public service announcements.

Staff writer at Vegas Seven magazine, a weekly metropolitan lifestyle publication. Duties included writing about community news, investigative stories, pop culture analysis, entertainment reviews, and posting to the magazine’s blog using WordPress. This work was recognized with a Nevada Press Association award for Urban Business writing.

Staff Writer – Las Vegas CityLife – 2004-2007

Wrote cover packages, breaking news, features, and political stories from an alternative weekly perspective. Earned the Outstanding Journalist of the Year award from the Nevada Press Association in 2005 (first year of eligibility) followed by numerous first-place awards for news-features and investigative reporting in the following years. The NPA also awarded Best Spot News photo.

Staff Writer – View Neighborhood News – 2000-2004

Lead reporter for three editorially distinct community weeklies. Stories ranged from features to business to city government and elections. The position included shooting most of the photos used, including cover photos (news magazine layout). The publication was jointly owned and distributed by The Las Vegas Review Journal and The Las Vegas Sun daily newspapers.
